June 28 news, according to Jin Shi citing The Korea Times, the South Korean presidential office said on Sunday that Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix will announce major investment plans on Monday at a meeting presided over by President Lee Jae-myung. The relevant investment will be announced at a briefing at the Blue House at 2:00 PM Korean time (1:00 PM Beijing time) on Monday, which is aimed at introducing the government's "three major super projects" to promote balanced regional development. A spokesperson added that the plan is jointly promoted by the trade, technology, transportation, and energy departments. Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won will attend the event and participate in a discussion session with other attendees. Industry observers expect that the two chipmakers will invest more than 1,000 trillion won (about $650 billion) over the next 10 years, which may include the possibility of developing a chip cluster in the southwestern Honam region. Lee Jae-myung called the investment a "historic achievement" and a policy move that could change South Korea's destiny on Saturday.
