By mistake.. Turkish woman throws kilogram of gold in garbage container

A Turkish woman accidentally threw a bag containing a kilogram of gold into a garbage container, losing her family's savings worth more than 6 million Turkish lira (about 133,000 dollars), which were intended for buying a house.

The incident occurred in the Akçalar area of Bursa province. The family quickly notified the police and the municipality. Authorities began search operations and reviewed surveillance camera footage to determine the fate of the gold, with two possibilities: either the garbage truck had taken it to the landfill, or someone had found it inside the container.

The head of the family explained that his wife was cleaning the house and thought the bag was just trash, so she threw it away without knowing it contained gold.

Turkey is known for the widespread culture of keeping savings in the form of gold inside homes. According to estimates by the Central Bank of Turkey, the value of gold stored in Turkish homes is about 600 billion dollars. It is later used to finance home purchases, cars, or to cover large expenses, especially in light of high inflation rates.
