The Spanish Ministry of Defense dispatched an Air Force transport plane to Venezuela on the evening of the 25th to participate in post-earthquake search and rescue operations. The aircraft carried 54 rescuers from Spain's Military Emergency Unit. Reports indicate that Spain will also provide rescue equipment and supplies to Venezuela. In a statement on the 26th, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the strong earthquake in Venezuela had killed two Spanish nationals and left 80 others missing. The statement noted that the deaths of the two victims had been confirmed by their families. Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares called on Spanish citizens still in Venezuela to contact the Spanish embassy or consulates in the country as soon as possible. An emergency hotline remains open 24 hours a day to assist in locating missing individuals and to provide help to affected citizens. (Xinhua)
