During the gold standard period, people had low time preference and accumulated a large number of artistic masterpieces. In contrast, in the era of government-centered fiat currency, people indulged in instant gratification, and more short-termist behaviors appeared in economic production and artistic and cultural activities.

In the past, people would spend one or two hundred years building a cathedral and a lifetime polishing a work of art. Nowadays, short videos and fast-food entertainment fill people's lives. Even for short videos, many creators are unwilling to spend time polishing them. I used to think it was due to social reasons, but in fact, the underlying change in society is economic change. Human social life cannot be separated from the economy.
