The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced an expansion of the import ban on Chinese equipment such as Huawei, with it to cover models released in 2022 or earlier starting from early next month, in order to protect national security.

The FCC implemented the ban starting in late 2022, prohibiting the import into the United States of telecommunications and surveillance equipment from Chinese companies including Huawei, ZTE, Hytera, and Hikvision; at the time, the ban only applied to newly released models, while existing models were not restricted.

The commission announced on Friday that the expanded ban will also prohibit in the future the import of models released in 2022 or earlier, emphasizing that controlling risks is a necessary measure to safeguard national security, though the public can continue using related products they have already purchased.
