Death toll in Venezuela earthquake rises to 1,430

Venezuela’s National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez said on the 27th that the death toll from the Venezuelan earthquake has risen to 1,430, with another 3,238 people injured. In a speech broadcast on Venezuela’s state television that day, Rodríguez said that since the two strong earthquakes on the 24th, about 430 minor to moderate aftershocks have occurred across Venezuela. Rodríguez, on behalf of the Venezuelan government, extended his deep condolences to the victims and pledged to carry out search-and-rescue efforts without letup. According to him, the international rescue forces and resources that have arrived in Venezuela include 2,242 rescue personnel, 96 search-and-rescue dogs, and 103 tons of equipment, as well as 3 tons of medical supplies.
