The U.S. Central Command released a statement saying that U.S. military forces carried out multiple strikes in the Strait of Hormuz on Friday in response to a previous attack by Iran on a merchant vessel while it was transiting the Strait.

This operation marks the first time U.S. forces have opened fire in the Strait of Hormuz since the signing of the interim ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran.

During the operation, U.S. warplanes struck Iranian missile and drone storage sites, as well as coastal radar stations. The U.S. military will continue to coordinate and support safe passage for merchant vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. military will maintain its presence and remain on high alert to ensure all aspects of the U.S.-Iran agreement are complied with, adhered to, and fully in effect.

According to an Iranian military source, a projectile struck the dock area in the Sirik region of southern Iran, with explosions heard at the scene. About five hours earlier, warning shots were fired from the Sirik region at vessels violating regulations in the Strait of Hormuz.
