I learned this lesson early in my life an old collague of mine, Sarah (not her real name) was literally sitting in hospital recieving chemo, fighting for her life when HR called her to terminate her employment.
12 years of loyalty. Late nights. Sacrifices. Gone. While bald and hooked to machines. No real warning. Bare minimum severance. and management continued to pedal the “We’re family” trope efter it happened 😭 That moment killed my opinions corporate loyalty forever.
Companies preach loyalty but it's a one way street they will discard you mid-battle. Your health isn’t their priority. Protect yourself first.Never forget: you’re replaceable. They’ll move on tomorrow.
Work hard, but put yourself first ALWAYS.
