Defense Minister: Has instructed the IDF to prepare for a long-term presence in a “security zone” in southern Lebanon.

Golden Finance reported that on June 28, local time on the 27th, Israel’s Defense Minister Katz issued a statement saying that the framework agreement reached between Israel and Lebanon is expected to shape, for the first time in decades, a brand-new and safer reality along the northern border of Israel and in Lebanon. Katz said that Israel will “maintain its current deployment” in Lebanon and will continue to control the “security zone” in southern Lebanon designated by Israel, including the Beaufort Heights. The prerequisite for Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon is that Hezbollah must disarm throughout all of Lebanon. Katz said that he and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu have already “instructed the Israel Defense Forces to prepare for a long-term presence in the ‘security zone’.” In the statement, Katz said, “Iran is trying to force Israel to withdraw from Lebanon through threats and pressure on the United States, but they failed.” He added that if Iran attempts to prevent the implementation of the agreement by attacking Israel, Israel will respond with a forceful counterattack.
