Sometimes parents shouldn't be held hostage by blood ties.

Sometimes children also shouldn't be held hostage by blood ties.
No one should be held hostage by any relationship.
For example, after a divorce, many children are awarded to the other parent, and you only get to see the child occasionally.
In fact, sometimes you can just treat it as if that child isn’t there (the specific situation each person faces is different, so handling differs).
If you’ve not lived together long-term anymore, and the child doesn’t recognize you, why insist that the other person is your child?
