South Korean government establishes cross-departmental agency to address AI-related crimes.

Golden Finance reported that on June 27, the South Korean government formed an interdepartmental consultation body on the 26th to address criminal acts carried out using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, such as “digital crimes,” financial fraud, and false advertising. This new body is named the “Interdepartmental Consultation Body for Responding to Crimes Involving AI,” and its members come from 10 government departments, including the Broadcasting and Communications Commission, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the Financial Services Commission, and the National Police Agency. According to South Korean media, as crimes involving AI become increasingly rampant, a single agency is often unable to handle them, so it is necessary to establish an interdepartmental body to coordinate and cooperate.
