According to Livecoins, the Federal District Police of Brazil launched "Operation Rastro" to combat a PIX instant payment system fraud and cryptocurrency money laundering case. The police stated that the group allegedly exploited vulnerabilities in a national credit union system, causing losses of over 5.5 million Brazilian reais (approximately $1.06 million) through 425 fraudulent PIX transactions. Part of the funds was used to purchase balances on crypto exchanges both inside and outside Brazil to obscure the flow of money. The police have executed 7 search warrants, seized devices, documents, and crypto asset wallets, and frozen funds in related bank accounts.

The name "Operation Rastro" is well-chosen; it is indeed tracing the trail of fund flows.

Domestic and foreign exchanges collaborate in money laundering, cross-border cooperation probably gives the police a massive headache.

$1.06 million split into 425 transactions, averaging only $2,500 per transaction. This splitting method is very professional.

Freezing + seizing wallets, how much on-chain funds can be recovered is the key point.

PIX vulnerability + crypto mixing, this trick is old but effective, Brazilian police acted quite quickly this time.
