June 27, according to official sources, OpenAI released GPT-5.6, including the flagship Sol (top performance for agent tasks), balanced Terra (performance close to GPT-5.5 but half the cost), and efficient Luna (high capacity, low cost), with pricing set at Sol input $5/output $30, Terra $2.5/$15, and Luna $1/$6 per million tokens. Sol achieves 88.8% on Terminal-Bench2.1 (91.9% for the Ultra version) leading, and demonstrates high capability with fewer tokens on ExploitBench cybersecurity tasks, while being equipped with the strongest security stack in history, tested through red teaming with 700k A100 equivalent GPU hours. Due to US government requirements, it is currently only available to Codex and API trusted partners, with plans to fully open within a few weeks.
