South Korea will train all active-duty soldiers to operate drones

As unmanned systems reshape modern warfare, South Korea will train hundreds of thousands of soldiers into "drone warriors" to counter threats from North Korea. South Korea announced a plan on Friday to deploy 60,000 drones over the next three years and ultimately train all active-duty soldiers in the country to operate drones against North Korea. South Korean Defense Minister An Gyu-baek, referring to the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East on Friday, said: "Drones are a game-changer on the battlefield." In the coming years, drones will be assigned to the South Korean Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. "Drones should no longer be equipment used by a few units but should become a common combat tool," An said. He stated that in response to concerns about reliance on China for key components, the South Korean military is seeking to domesticate all parts.
