Middle East Situation: Iran's Revolutionary Guard Refutes Establishment of Iran-US Military Hotline in the Strait of Hormuz

According to Iran’s state TV, Press TV, Iran and the United States have set up a military communication hotline regarding the Strait of Hormuz to prevent accidental incidents from leading to military escalation. However, an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesperson denied the claim, saying the strait is Iran’s territorial waters and has nothing to do with the United States.

Press TV said the dedicated hotline was proposed in the final statement issued by mediators Pakistan and Qatar after talks between the two countries were held in Zurich, Switzerland, last week. The hotline is intended to prevent incidents in the strait that could lead to a military clash, and to implement the provisions of Article 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

Earlier, U.S. Vice President Vance (JD Vance) revealed that, under a new understanding agreement between the U.S. and Iran, plans are in place to establish a direct channel to de-escalate military confrontations between the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. It was reported that the mechanism is tentatively planned to be set up in Doha, the capital of Qatar, with the aim of reducing the risk of escalation in the Middle East.

Because the United States still lists Iran’s Revolutionary Guard as a foreign terrorist organization, the above news has sparked controversy.
