Value Showdown — What Lies Behind 1.53 Billion vs 590 Million
France’s total squad value is €1.53 billion, while Norway’s is €590 million. The gap is about 2.6 times. France ranks 1st in squad value in this edition, while Norway ranks 9th.
France’s value breakdown: the forward line totals about €450 million (Mbappé €180 million + Dembélé €100 million + Olise €150 million), the midfield line is about €350 million, the back line is about €450 million, and the goalkeeper line is about €180 million. In the 26-man squad, there are more than 15 players valued at over €50 million.
Norway’s value breakdown: Haaland €200 million + Ødegaard €65 million + Nusa €35 million + Sørloth €30 million. These four together total €330 million, accounting for 56% of the team’s entire squad value. The total value of Norway’s back line is less than €80 million. Only six players are valued at over €20 million.
The value gap reflects a massive difference in squad depth. Even if France rotates 6–7 key starters, the players they bring in are still the starters from top clubs in the five major European leagues. The gap in strength between Norway’s starters and substitutes is clearly evident: if Haaland or Ødegaard are specifically targeted and heavily limited by opponents, Norway’s attacking output will be significantly diminished.
But a squad value gap does not necessarily mean a strength gap. Norway won all 8 matches in the World Cup qualifiers, double-beating Italy, proving that the team’s overall competitiveness exceeds what the numbers on paper suggest. Norway has strong team cohesion and high tactical execution—something also proven by their performances in the first two group matches. Norway’s attacking output (3.5 goals per game) even exceeds France’s attacking efficiency. Football isn’t just math: it’s by no means rare in World Cup history for a team ranked 9th in value to beat a team ranked 1st in value.
The real significance of the squad value gap is this: after the match reaches the 70th minute, players like Kanté, Thuram, and Barcola on France’s bench can sustain pressure with continuous impact, while Norway’s substitutes struggle to maintain the same level of intensity. This kind of overwhelming advantage in formation depth could become a key factor in determining the course of the match in the latter half of the second half. #挪威VS法国
