A netizen used X Money to “transfer $25” to the world’s richest man, Elon Musk: “Buy you a coffee!”—luring a response from Musk himself.
Social platform X (formerly Twitter)'s payment feature X Money is gradually becoming popular. Recently, an overseas user, in order to test the feature, had the whimsical idea to directly transfer $25 to the world's richest man and X platform boss Elon Musk, with a note saying "Buy you a coffee." Unexpectedly, this self-deprecating "idiot" move not only garnered nearly 6 million views but also successfully got Musk himself to reply with thanks, unexpectedly becoming the best free promotion for X Money.

In the age of social media, how to use $25 (approximately NT$800) to catch the attention of the world's richest man? An X platform user gave the most direct answer. According to a trending post on social media dated June 25, 2026 US time, a user named Corey (@CoreyTheX) used the platform's built-in @XMoney payment feature to complete a peer-to-peer transfer that made netizens laugh.
"Call me an idiot"! Draining the balance just to buy the richest man a coffee
Corey posted a screenshot in dark mode of using X Money to transfer. The screenshot shows that he successfully sent $25 to Elon Musk's account verified with a blue check mark, and casually wrote in the note: "Buy a coffee on me."
He wrote self-deprecatingly in the post: "Call me an idiot, but I just sent $25 directly to Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, using @XMoney, just because I can. lol" However, the most dramatic highlight of the entire screenshot is that after completing this tip to the world's richest man worth over a trillion dollars, Corey's own X Money account "remaining balance" mercilessly became $0.
Nearly 6 million people flock, Musk himself humorously thanks
This post, full of dark humor and meme potential, quickly went viral on the X platform. As of now, the post has accumulated over 5.9 million views, 25k likes, and over 4,000 replies.
Most surprisingly, this $25 "meager" tip actually broke through the algorithm's barriers and caught Musk's attention. Musk personally replied humorously under the post: "**Tks 😂 (Thanks!) **", and the 😂 brief interaction instantly drove a large number of netizens crazy, flocking to pay tribute.
Community laughs: Is this the so-called "bankruptcy flex"?
The comment section was filled with hilarious responses and meme creations. Although many people joked and mocked Corey as an "idiot" or "bag holder", some netizens even photoshopped images, joking that while Corey's balance went to zero, Musk's assets increased by another $25 to become $1.2 trillion; others joked about changing their name to Musk's illegitimate child to claim child support.
Facing netizens' teasing, Corey himself responded quite magnanimously: "I don't care if he saw it or not, but now I can loudly say that I 'personally' gave the richest man in the world $25, and that's a Flex."
This unintentional social media fun event not only earned Corey plenty of traffic, but also perfectly demonstrated the ultimate smoothness of X Money peer-to-peer transfers to millions of netizens worldwide. Invisibly, this might have become the most successful free viral marketing since Musk promoted the financial payment landscape of the "Everything App."
