Don't worry about unemployment! 40-year-old Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has received offers from multiple teams
At the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, the 40-year-old Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha became an overnight sensation. Having just become a free agent before the tournament, he now has offers from several Brazilian clubs, marking a major turning point in his career. Reports indicate that at least three Brazilian Serie B teams have extended offers to the goalkeeper, including Ceará Sporting Club and Atlético Mineiro.

Before the World Cup began, Vozinha's contract with GD Chaves in the Portuguese Liga Portugal 2 expired, leaving him without a team. He previously earned a monthly salary of only €5,000 in the Portuguese league. If he successfully moves to Brazilian football, his salary is expected to increase significantly. His standout performances on the pitch have also fully revitalized his commercial value; his social media followers surged from less than 60k before the tournament to nearly 16 million. Many brands are proactively seeking collaborations, and some business negotiations have entered substantive stages.
Vozinha's real name is Josimar Dias, and he has deep ties to Brazil. At the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, Brazilian defender Josimar Pereira made a huge impression, so his father named him accordingly. "Vozinha" was just a childhood nickname. Early in his career, he played in the Angolan league. Since there was another goalkeeper with the same name on his team, he reluctantly kept this nickname, which he had once disliked. In his daily life, Vozinha regularly watches Brazilian Serie A matches and Brazilian films and TV shows. His football idol is Brazilian legendary goalkeeper Rogério Ceni, and his favorite singer is Brazilian artist Ivete Sangalo.
Recently, Vozinha was interviewed by Brazilian influencer and journalist Daniel Braun, in which he admitted that he has not yet signed a new contract and remains open to all offers. "My contract with GD Chaves has ended. For now, I have no new contract. Anything is possible—we'll see." When asked about the possibility of playing in Brazil, he expressed great anticipation: "It would be fantastic if I had the chance to go to Brazil. I've always wanted to go there to properly thank the fans for their massive support, and I think many of my teammates would also like to go."
Vozinha previously traveled to Brazil for preseason matches with his former club, Angola's Progresso do Sambizanga, so he has experience living there. During the interview, he also shared his goalkeeper idols: Belgian goalkeeper Michel Preud'homme, Dutch legend Edwin van der Sar, and Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon, all of whom served as benchmarks throughout his career.
Vozinha stated that the primary goal right now is to fight for a spot in the knockout stage. Currently, Cape Verde is third in Group H with 2 points. On the morning of June 27 (Beijing time), Cape Verde will face Saudi Arabia in the final group match. Vozinha said that advancing is a shared dream for all Cape Verdeans: "Just being able to stand on the World Cup stage is incredibly precious. If we break through against all odds, it would be an unimaginable miracle."
