Meta fully absorbs the co-founders and core team of AI security startup Virtue AI

CoinWorld news: Meta announced the full acquisition of the three co-founders and core team of the AI safety and governance startup Virtue AI. The three founders are Song Xiaodong, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley; Bo Li, an associate professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; and Sanmi Koyejo, an assistant professor in the Computer Science department at Stanford University. Meta will only take in the team and will not acquire any corporate entity of Virtue AI, nor will it involve intellectual property or customer contracts.

Virtue AI was founded in 2024 and focuses on enterprise-level AI safety infrastructure, developing automated red-team testing, runtime guardrails, and intelligent agent safety governance tools. Meta plans to enhance the protective capabilities of autonomous software agents against security vulnerabilities such as data leaks and malicious instructions by bringing in the team. Song Xiaodong will serve as Vice President of AI Research at Meta, Bo Li will join Meta’s Super Intelligence Lab, and Sanmi Koyejo will join Meta’s FAIR Lab. Previously, Virtue AI had received early support from multiple investment institutions.
