Senate Passes Housing Bill That Would Block Fed Retail CBDC Through 2030

The US Senate passed the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act in an 85-5 vote, and the bill would block a retail digital dollar through at least the end of 2030. Elizabeth Warren co-authored and advanced the bipartisan package after previously saying a central bank digital currency had "great promise." After the freeze expires, the Federal Reserve would need explicit, affirmative authorization from Congress for any substantially similar digital asset. The bill focuses mainly on housing construction, permitting, and restrictions on large private equity purchases of single-family homes.
