Wu noted that according to data platform CryptoRank, in the second quarter of 2026, the number of active cryptocurrency investors (mainly institutions or venture capital participants) globally has dropped to 651, far below the all-time high (ATH) of 2,564 in 2022. This figure is only higher than the same period in 2020 (when quarterly participants ranged from 250 to 450), setting a new low in nearly six years. Analysis points out that this trend indicates venture capital in the cryptocurrency field is increasingly concentrating among a small number of professional investment groups, while overall market participation remains far below the peak levels of the previous cycle.

Concentration of professional groups is not necessarily a bad thing; at least there is less noise.

ATH 2564 to 651, this drop is even more brutal than the coin price.

The increase in venture capital concentration indicates that the industry is undergoing a reshuffle, and what remains is real gold.

Institutional investors have all fled, retail investors are still holding on, this market is really surreal.
