Microsoft has used artificial intelligence technology to detect and counter the activities of two types of malware: Amadey and StealC. Microsoft investigators used the Copilot tool to analyze the malicious code and clarify the connection between these two software programs. Amadey is malware that helps hackers gain access to devices, while StealC is information-stealing software used to collect sensitive data.

In the first two weeks of May, these two software programs infected over 140,000 computers worldwide. Microsoft collaborated with cybersecurity organizations to counter these activities and filed a civil lawsuit accusing the defendants of violating the United States Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. Artificial intelligence technology is reshaping both sides of the digital crime landscape, forcing security teams to expand their defensive focus from individual malicious actors to the entire toolchain.
