Iran's tough warning raises oil price risk premium.
CoinWorld News reported that Investinglive analysts pointed out that Iran has warned that ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz must coordinate with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, escalating its tough stance on transit issues, which could push up tanker freight rates and the risk premium on crude oil prices. Iran warned that vessels using unauthorized routes without permission will be punished, providing a legal basis for the navy to intercept, board, and seize them. Mandatory coordination on Channel 16 essentially gives Tehran control over transit information and consent rights. For the energy market, this is either a response to future alternative route plans or a preemptive move to assert sovereignty. In any case, it is bearish for supply security but bullish for oil prices in the short term.
