In Japan, there are calls to extend the retention period of child abuse records held by child consultation centers. Currently, these records are kept until the child turns 25 if they were placed in a care facility, or for 5 years after the case is closed. However, with the extension of the statute of limitations for certain sexual crimes, there's a risk that records may no longer exist by the time victims wish to press charges as adults.
