Alphabet to replace Verizon in the Dow as DJIA adds more exposure to big tech

🔔 Alphabet will replace Verizon in the Dow Jones Industrial Average before the market opens on June 29, according to S&P Dow Jones Indices.
📊 The main reason is Verizon’s low share price, which left it with only around 0.5% weight in the DJIA. Since the Dow is price-weighted, Verizon’s impact on the index had become very limited.
🧠 Adding Alphabet shows the Dow is adjusting to better reflect the modern U.S. economy, where AI, cloud and digital advertising play a larger role. In the short term, the move could provide mild technical support for Alphabet from index-tracking funds, but price action will still depend heavily on broader tech sentiment and Fed expectations.
