Oracle trims workforce as it doubles down on AI and cloud

🏢 Oracle reported a roughly 13% decline in its workforce in fiscal 2026, from 162,000 to 141,000 employees, equal to about 21,000 people. The figure appeared in its latest 10-K filing and quickly drew market attention.
🤖 The key point is that Oracle said AI adoption across its operations has already led, and may continue to lead, to workforce reductions. Still, this is not only a story of AI replacing jobs, but also part of a broader restructuring effort to optimize costs and reshape operations.
☁️ Severance and exit costs rose to $1.84 billion, showing that the transition is significant. In the short term, this may pressure costs and sentiment, but over the longer term, Oracle is trying to redirect more resources toward cloud and AI infrastructure.
