Complete tutorial for opening a Gate account and purchasing U.S. stocks

Gate currently offers two ways to trade U.S. stocks: spot stock trading (connecting with compliant brokers to directly buy and sell U.S. stocks and ETFs) and CFD contracts (using USDT as collateral to leverage trade U.S. stock price differences). The procedures for enabling and operating these two methods are different; each will be explained below.

Method 1: Spot Stock Trading (Recommended for Beginners)

Gate's spot stock trading connects with compliant brokers to provide real U.S. stock and ETF trading services, not on-chain mapped assets or tokenized derivatives, but legitimate real stock trading. Step 1: Register a Gate account

If you don't have a Gate account yet, complete registration: Registration link: https://www.gate.io/signup/U1UXUV8K?ref_type=103 Invitation code: U1UXUV8K

Log in to the Gate App: Tap the profile icon in the top left → Personal Information → "Identity Verification" Select document type (ID card / Passport / Hong Kong & Macau Travel Permit), fill in personal info, and upload document photos Complete facial verification

⚠️ KYC verification is a necessary prerequisite for opening U.S. stock trading; without completing verification, subsequent operations cannot be performed. Step 3: Update the Gate App

Update the Gate App to version V8.21.5 or above, which is the minimum version requirement for stock spot trading. You can search for Gate in the app store to update. Step 4: Enter the stock trading interface Open the Gate App, log into your account Find the "TradFi" tab in the bottom navigation bar Tap to enter and select the "Stocks" sub-module Step 5: Transfer USDT funds

On the stock trading page, click the "Transfer" button to move USDT from your spot account to the stock trading account. This transfer is an internal platform operation, completed instantly, with no fees charged. Method 2: CFD Contract Trading (Suitable for Experienced Users)

CFD (Contract for Difference) uses USDT as collateral to leverage trade the price movements of U.S. stocks. It does not hold actual stocks but trades the price differences. Step 1: Register and complete KYC

Same as Method 1, first register an account and complete KYC verification. Step 2: Update the Gate App

Update the Gate App to version V8.4.0 or above (recommended to update to the latest version). Step 3: Open a TradFi CFD account Open the Gate App, log into your account Tap the bottom navigation bar "Contracts" → "TradFi" to enter On first access, agree to the protocol to open a CFD trading account

⚠️ TradFi services are limited in some regions; opening permissions are gradually released based on quotas. If your region is not yet available, you need to wait for the platform to gradually open quotas. Step 4: Transfer funds to the CFD contract account

After opening the account, click the "Transfer" button at the top of the page to move USDT from your spot account to the CFD contract account. Step 5: Select U.S. stock assets

On the CFD contract page, choose the U.S. stock CFD assets you want to trade, such as: FAANG stocks (Apple, Amazon, Google, Meta, etc.) Popular stocks like Tesla, NVIDIA Major global indices (S&P 500, NASDAQ 100) Step 6: Place a trade Choose trading direction: Long (buy expecting rise) or Short (sell expecting fall) Enter trading amount (lots) It is recommended to set stop-loss and take-profit to control risk Confirm the order CFD fee explanation

Trading Hours Reminder

U.S. stock trading hours follow the U.S. market opening times (Eastern Time 9:30 - 16:00), corresponding to approximately 21:30 - 04:00 Beijing time (one hour later during daylight saving time). During non-trading hours, spot stock orders cannot be placed; CFD contracts may still have quotes, but liquidity may decrease, and there is a risk of gaps over the weekend.
