People love saying, “Minimum wage was never meant to be a living wage.”

But if a full-time worker can’t afford the basics like rent, food, and utilities then what exactly is the minimum wage supposed to be for?
The entire idea behind a minimum wage is to set the lowest legal pay that still allows someone working full time to meet basic living costs. If it doesn’t do that anymore, it’s no longer serving its original purpose.
