Ni Jun: Idle computing power and batteries can be monetized, which may dismantle the private car ownership model

Mars Finance News, June 23 — CATL Chief Manufacturing Officer Ni Jun proposed a highly disruptive "car owner income" logic at the 2026 Summer Davos. He pointed out that in the software-defined vehicle era, idle high-computing power chips and large-capacity batteries when the vehicle is parked can be transformed into production factors. By participating in grid energy storage regulation or exporting computing power externally, car owners can earn actual income. This "feedback" mechanism will greatly improve users' perception of costs. He further warned that if combined with autonomous driving sharing models, the attributes of private cars will be completely changed. Users will only summon vehicles when needed, without bearing ownership costs. According to analysis, if this model becomes widespread, China only needs 60 million operating vehicles to meet the travel needs of all citizens, which will fundamentally break the existing automotive sales scale logic and reshape the industry landscape.
