The independent research institute in the field of semiconductors and artificial intelligence, SemiAnalysis, indicates that the short-term demand for artificial intelligence exceeds the rate of cost reduction resulting from Moore's Law. Between 2001 and 2020, Moore's Law led to a price decrease of about 52%, but in May, import prices rose by 14.4% year-over-year and 3.6% month-over-month, reaching an all-time high. Even with the "enjoyment" adjustments that reflect improvements in chip speed and capacity, prices were expected to decrease, but the current chip shortage is increasing the cost per unit of computation, and the rise reflects the base price before tariffs.
