Former Meta executives' message to graduates: In the AI era, a ten-year career plan is already outdated

Abstract generation in progress
Gold Finance reports that on June 22, according to Wealth Chinese Network, Meta's former Chief Operating Officer Sandberg recently addressed graduates at Brandeis University: "You don't need to make a ten-year plan; you only need to do two things: first, find the short-term direction and clarify your current goals; second, keep long-term ideals in mind and think clearly about what kind of life you want to live. Don't worry about how to connect the two; the future path of life is full of surprises, and opportunities are hidden within these surprises."
In the job market currently heavily impacted by AI technology, the popular positions that graduates are pursuing may undergo dramatic changes in just a few years, or even disappear altogether. Against this backdrop, trying to plan one's life trajectory is not only futile but may also cause missed opportunities to rewrite one's destiny.
Sandberg's advice comes at a time when young professionals are generally feeling anxious. "I understand that many of you are worried about the future, and that's natural," she said. "I'm sure you've all seen news reports that this year's graduates are facing the most severe employment situation in decades." But she also emphasized that employment difficulties have always existed. "Every year, people say it's the hardest job market season, and this kind of talk has been around since the concept of 'graduation' existed," she added. "I'm not saying that finding a job now is easy, but I want to say that every generation ultimately finds solutions and successfully overcomes difficulties."
