Don’t cry about the margin first—the order book will speak. But this time, the order book is spouting nonsense.
SHLD open interest is up 40% in 24 hours, yet the price is down 4.4%.
What the hell kind of logic is that?
A sudden surge in open positions usually means big money is quietly building positions, and it’s typically a signal that a pump is coming. But the price got smashed instead—so it suggests the bears are hard-absorbing, or that “smart money” is pulling the classic play: open acts in plain sight while something else happens off-screen.
When I was watching this coin earlier, large on-chain transfers were also increasing at the same time. I was thinking: isn’t this a signal to get on board?
Then I turned around and—surprise—no rally came. I got a warning shot instead.
This round doesn’t play fair.
At the time, I almost chased in. My hand was already on the keyboard, but I managed to hold back. Because this combo of explosive OI and price divergence usually means either a shakeout or a trap.
If you bet that it’s a shakeout, then wait for a confirmation signal before entering; if you bet it’s a trap, then running away is profit.
I’ve done too many contract trades myself—these kinds of fake moves are the easiest way to lure people onto the train and then swallow them whole.
My current take is: OI surges but the price doesn’t move with it, which shows an extremely big split between longs and shorts, and there could still be another round of turbulence in the short term. If you really want to get in, you have to wait for the price to stand firm again at the level where OI surged—otherwise, you’re just handing fuel to the main force.
What do you all think? Is this round of SHLD a shakeout or a real dump?
Pick a side and give your reasons—don’t just shout long or short.
I watched that episode of Voice of Trading. The most straightforward line the trader said was: don’t marry the data—data only tells you half the truth. A surge in open interest is only half the truth; the other half is hidden in the price, the funds, and how you manage your position.
If SHLD really can hold steady this time, liquidity in the altcoin sector may get reactivated—because the direction smart money enters often marks the starting point of the next sector rotation.
But if it keeps breaking down, the contract liquidation layer will domino—swallowing all the long-chasing positions. #我的Gate交易时刻 #STRC跌破面值11%创上市新低 #预测世界杯西班牙VS沙特
