I was also a freshman on October 1, 2024. Because I was eager to find a part-time job, I searched on a certain book app for available part-time jobs during the holiday, and someone private messaged me, saying they could take me to play Bitcoin, and I could easily earn hundreds of yuan a day. Out of curiosity and a desire to learn, I listened to him tell me about Bitcoin-related knowledge and introduced me to a platform, because I had previously been scammed out of 3,000 yuan by a tutoring class. So I was very cautious and searched online to verify if the platform was legitimate. Then he started guiding me to a legitimate c2c platform, and asked me to fill in his invitation code (he didn’t give me a penny). He initially asked me to deposit 2,000 yuan, but I didn’t because I had no experience and was afraid it was a scam. I only deposited 700 yuan. At that time, I felt a bit suspicious, like a scam, thinking it might be a “pig-butchering” scheme. He continued to explain and educate me, and eventually I trusted him. I let my guard down because he initially helped me earn 100 yuan. I said I was done playing and wanted to go out for late-night snacks with my roommate. I still remember that it was almost 10 p.m., and we were on our way to a barbecue when he asked me to deposit another 1,000 yuan, claiming there was a big opportunity. I immediately agreed, making a total of 1,700 yuan. I even downloaded a coin called Moufu (which I can’t find anymore) and transferred the money, claiming it had lower fees. I didn’t understand much about fees at the time, but trusting him, I transferred the money. Then my roommate and I arrived at the barbecue restaurant and ordered some food. He contacted me saying there was a good opportunity. He asked me to open a leveraged long position (I was new and don’t remember the details exactly). Within just a few minutes, I doubled my position and made 3,000 yuan. I asked him whether I should cash out, and he said I could hold a little longer. After a minute or two, I saw my floating profit turn into floating loss. I asked what to do, and he told me to hedge (I had only been involved for a few hours and didn’t know what hedging was). I didn’t know how to operate, and he stopped replying. I saw my position fluctuate by hundreds of yuan in a second. As a first-year student, my heart was pounding. I hoped it would go up, but it didn’t, and suddenly a candlestick broke through my position. The whole process took less than 10 minutes. In just ten minutes, I went from earning 3,000 yuan to losing 2,000 yuan. I was numb. During that time, I even told my roommate I was also bringing him into this, and I had earned 3,000 yuan in just a few minutes. When I got margin called, I didn’t even want to eat late-night snacks anymore; I lost my appetite. I immediately found him and asked why my money was gone, because I didn’t understand these things at the time. He said my position was liquidated. I asked what to do, and he told me to keep depositing money. He said I was liquidated because I deposited too little. Due to my respect for the investment market, I thought he had a point and felt that a few thousand yuan wasn’t enough to meet the threshold. I was brainwashed by him and almost deposited another 2,000 yuan. For me at that time, 1,700 yuan was already very painful, especially within a few minutes (looking back now, maybe my 1,700 yuan was gone when I transferred it to that scam platform). I told him to give me some time and that I would deposit again in a couple of days. At this point, he lied to me, saying that opportunities don’t come every day. I was really upset, and I decided not to be fooled anymore. I said I wouldn’t deposit for now and would wait a couple of days, then went back with my roommate. I didn’t tell anyone. (I hope everyone can take my experience as a warning: don’t trust people who claim they can make you money easily, because they might lead you into hell.) Personally, my first margin call was also the most helpless I’ve ever felt.
