ME News, on April 22 (UTC+8), according to Hong Kong media HK01, before attending an executive meeting, Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive John Lee met with the media and was asked about the suspension of the basketball betting tax. He said that the Youth and Civil Service Bureau needs to conduct regular reviews, and before continuing to implement the basketball betting tax policy, it hopes to control risks. He believes this measure is appropriate. John Lee emphasized that the suspension policy is not only because of gambling, but also related to virtual currency. The Hong Kong government has seen a significant increase in the trading volume of illegal gambling “prediction markets,” which is related to placing bets through cryptocurrencies; therefore, the policy should not be promoted blindly.
