🇬🇧BREAKING: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is reportedly set to resign on Monday, with The Observer reporting he has decided his position is no longer sustainable and will lay out a timetable to leave office. Reuters has confirmed the same report. A government source is directly denying it.
The resignation, if confirmed, would cap eighteen months of sustained collapse. Starmer's ambassador to the US, Peter Mandelson, was fired in September 2025 over Epstein ties and failed security vetting. Defence Secretary John Healey resigned on June 11, accusing Starmer of underfunding the military against a rising Russian threat.
Labour lost over 1,100 council seats in May local elections while Reform UK gained over 1,450. More than 100 of Starmer's own MPs have publicly demanded he quit, and last Friday Andy Burnham won a parliamentary seat, giving him the standing to formally challenge for the Labour leadership.
The government has also faced sustained public anger over illegal Channel crossings, high rents, rising bills, tax increases, and a string of high-profile policy reversals that eroded its core working class support base.
If Starmer goes, the UK will have had seven Prime Ministers in just over a decade, the fastest turnover in nearly 200 years.
