• By scoring four times, Japan set a new record for the highest number of goals achieved by an Asian team in a single World Cup game.

• Daichi Kamada matched a milestone last reached by Junichi Inamoto in 2002 by becoming only the second Japanese player to find the net in consecutive World Cup appearances.
• Ayase Ueda joined Cody Gakpo, who achieved the feat against Sweden, as the second player during this round of fixtures to record two goals alongside an assist.
• Tunisia is now only the fourth nation in tournament history to suffer consecutive World Cup defeats by four or more goals, joining the ranks of Bolivia in 1930, the Korea Republic in 1954, and Greece in 1994.
• The Japanese defense allowed a historic low of just a single shot during the opening half. Their previous best was conceding only two shots, which coincidentally also occurred against Tunisia back in 2002.
• Replacing a head coach in the middle of a World Cup has never resulted in an immediate victory for the five teams that have tried it. Tunisia and Herve Renard kept this winless streak alive in their latest match.
