2026 World Cup Group F Match between Tunisia and Japan at Monterrey Stadium, Mexico, on Sunday (6/21/2026), is not just an ordinary group stage game. This duel is recorded as the 1,000th match in World Cup history since the first tournament was held in Uruguay in 1930.

FIFA marks this rare moment in a quite symbolic way. The referees on duty wear special attributes accented with gold as a tribute to the long journey of the world's biggest football tournament.

Romanian referee, István Kovács, is honored to lead this historic match. He also wears a special uniform with gold-colored details that are only used for this 1,000th match.

The uniform features gold stripes and a badge inscribed with the number 1,000. This attribute was handed directly by FIFA Referee Committee Chairman, Pierluigi Collina, who is also a former world-renowned referee.

“This is a very special match because it is the 1,000th in World Cup history. Imagine officiating a game like this,” said Pierluigi Collina in an interview quoted from talkSPORT.

“Because this moment is special, the referee also needs to get something special. There are gold details on the uniform, including an emblem with the number 1000,” he continued.#PredictWorldCup
