BlockBeats News, June 21 — According to CNN, Sina Azodi, Director of the Middle East Studies Program at George Washington University, stated that although both the US and Iran claim the other side is violating rules, both the United States and Iran have sent senior officials to Switzerland for negotiations because both sides have "vested interests" in ending the conflict.

Azodi pointed out that Israel's attack on Lebanon is a violation of the memorandum for Iran, and the US may also interpret Tehran's claim to close the Strait of Hormuz as a breach of the understanding memorandum. Azodi also said that Tehran might want to "test and see" whether Washington can restrain Israel and end hostilities in Lebanon.

As of the time of publication, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Munir have arrived in Switzerland to participate in technical talks between the US and Iran under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding in Islamabad.
