"Orange Army" Fully Powered, Netherlands Defeats Sweden 5-1
Early morning on June 21, a key match in Group F of the World Cup between the USA, Canada, and Mexico took place at Houston Stadium. The "Orange Army" Netherlands team unleashed their full firepower, defeating Sweden 5-1, securing their first win of this World Cup and gaining an early advantage in qualifying.
In the first match, the Netherlands led twice but ultimately settled for a 2-2 draw with Japan. Sweden, on the other hand, defeated Tunisia 5-1. In this matchup, the Netherlands, desperate for a victory, took the initiative from the start, with substitute center forward Brobbey scoring two goals in the 5th and 17th minutes. In the second half, Liverpool forward Gakpo scored two more goals in the 47th and 54th minutes. Although Sweden's Eren Ha scored a consolation goal, the Netherlands sealed the victory with a late goal from substitute Sommerviel, making the final score 5-1.
This 5-1 victory not only put the Netherlands at the top of Group F but also set an unprecedented record — 14 consecutive undefeated matches in the World Cup, surpassing Brazil to become the all-time leader. Since the 2010 World Cup final, the Netherlands have never lost in regular time. Notably, the Netherlands' total goals in the World Cup also surpassed 100, making them the eighth team to achieve this milestone.
Today, this Dutch team may not have absolute superstars, but they have emerging talents like Brobbey, experienced veterans like Denzel Dumfries, and core players like Gakpo continuously improving. Their "bottom line" is extremely high. As coach Koeman said after the match, this victory sends a clear signal to all opponents: the Netherlands are sufficiently dangerous.
