Trump: If no agreement is reached with Iran, the U.S. may impose Strait transit fees
Deep Tide TechFlow News. On June 21, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on the social media platform “Truth Social” that during the 60-day ceasefire period, the Strait of Hormuz will not charge any tolls. After the 60-day deadline ends, no tolls will be charged either, unless the relevant agreement cannot be reached; for the purpose of seeking compensation, the United States—acting as the “guardian angel” of Middle Eastern countries, providing services to them—will determine and levy the corresponding fees for the costs it has incurred in the past, present, and future.
According to the contents of the memorandum of understanding on the Iran-U.S. agreement that had previously been released by Iranian state media and U.S. officials, the terms related to passage through the Strait of Hormuz clearly state that Iran will make every effort to arrange for commercial vessels to safely and freely travel back and forth between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman within the 60-day period. As for after the 60-day period, the Strait of Hormuz’s management arrangements will be established through dialogue between Iran and Oman, and in consultation with other Gulf coastal countries.
