Central Banks Accumulate Gold, XAUT Experiences a Break in the Structure

Emerging-market central banks are stockpiling gold at a pace that rewrites history. Just Asian and Eastern European countries have absorbed 12 tons per month for three consecutive years. But in the same period, tokenization claims on that gold—XAUT—have traced a death spiral and triggered panic-driven volume. Such a sharp divergence demands attention.
🔹 Rotating Reserves Far From Paper
Central banks in Asia are now, on average, buying 8 tons of gold per month over the past year. Eastern Europe absorbed an additional 7 tons. Africa contributes 2 tons. The direction is undeniable: foreign exchange reserves are rapidly diversifying into precious metals. Gold recently overtook U.S. Treasuries as the primary reserve asset for the first time since the 1990s, accounting for 27% of total central bank holdings.
🔹 Tether Doubles Down on Investment in Physical Gold
Tether has accumulated more than 100 tons of gold in just 2025, outpacing every sovereign buyer. The recent shutdown of the Alloy aUSDT platform refocused Tether’s gold strategy back onto XAUT. Each token is still backed 1:1 by physical gold stored in Swiss vaults. Lending utility has emerged this week, with Ledn enabling loans collateralized by XAUT. The infrastructure around the token is deepening even as price charts fluctuate.
🔹 XAUT Shows Overbought While Fundamentals Build
The 24-hour price moved from $4.170 to $4.133, a modest decline of 0.26%. Beneath the surface, selling is extremely intense. Volume surged far above weekly averages, signaling panic liquidations. The death spiral is locked on the 15-minute and 4-hour charts, and the daily structure remains in a bearish stance. The MACD histogram, however, is beginning to diverge. On the 4-hour timeframe, the price is printing lower lows while MACD rises higher. The Williams Range and CCI are buried in oversold territory. Historically, these signals precede sharp short-term rebounds.
🔹 Divergence Is a Signal
Sovereign bonds are accumulating physical gold at levels not seen in decades. Tether is consolidating its gold product into XAUT. Utility on the blockchain continues to expand. Meanwhile, speculative crypto capital is dumping this token amid broad liquidity pressure. When forced selling meets structural demand, the resulting gap is often filled aggressively. The broader gold complex is building a base. This tokenization leg is only lagging behind.
Central bank buying has not slowed down. The XAUT oscillator is pressed down to levels that historically mark local bottoms. The gap between fundamental accumulation and technical fear is a trade typically priced in by patience.
Friends, do you see XAUT at this level as a convergence play, or are you waiting for the moving averages to turn first?
