A Messi dirty jersey is worth a house in Beijing. Can you believe it?

On December 15, 2023, Sotheby's auction house sold six jerseys Messi wore during the 2022 World Cup for a total of $7.8 million, equivalent to over 55 million RMB.
On average, each one is just under 10 million, and that's not even his most expensive. Not to mention the one Pele wore in the 1958 final, which is valued at over $6 million.
Why is it so valuable? This is called a game-worn jersey; players truly fought hard in key matches, and sweat and mud are authentic marks, part of history. It’s completely different from the fan edition sold in stores.
So, in the future, when watching games, if the coach substitutes key players early, don’t just criticize the tactics as conservative. Maybe they’re not only protecting the players but also safeguarding a walking financial asset.
After all, at the end of competitive sports, it’s all about human relationships and business logic. $TSLAB
