Nobel laureate John Jumper leaves DeepMind, Google loses two AI executives within two days

According to Beating Monitoring, Google DeepMind Vice President and AlphaFold team lead John Jumper announced that he will join Anthropic. John Jumper has worked at Google DeepMind for nearly 9 years, and, for leading the development of AlphaFold together with CEO Demis Hassabis, he jointly received the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Just one day earlier, Noam Shazeer—former co-leader of Gemini and one of the co-authors of Attention Is All You Need—had also announced that he was leaving Google to join OpenAI as Head of Architecture Research.
