Nobel laureate John Jumper leaves DeepMind, Google loses two AI executives within two days

According to Beating Monitoring, Google DeepMind Vice President and AlphaFold team leader John Jumper announced that he will join Anthropic. John Jumper has served at Google DeepMind for nearly 9 years and led the development of AlphaFold, jointly earning the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with CEO Demis Hassabis.

Just the day before, former Gemini co-leader and one of the authors of Attention Is All You Need, Noam Shazeer, also announced that he was leaving Google to join OpenAI as Head of Architecture Research.
