Yesterday, all the second-round matches in Groups A and B of the 2026 USA–Canada–Mexico World Cup were played, with plenty of action to watch, and the qualification picture has become much clearer. In Group A, the Czech Republic took on South Africa: the Czech Republic quickly broke the deadlock in the 6th minute. In the second half, the opponent levelled the score with a penalty kick, and the match ended 1-1. Both teams finished on 1 point, and their chances of advancing are slim. Shortly afterward, Mexico defeated South Korea 1-0. A goalkeeper’s mistake handed Romo the winning goal. Mexico won both of its matches and became the first team in this tournament to secure a qualification spot. South Korea has one win and one loss, and in the final round it must go all out to win in order to safeguard its qualification place.

Group B produced two big-score matches. Switzerland thrashed Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1. In the second half, Bosnia and Herzegovina were derailed after receiving a red card, and Manzanby replaced in and scored twice. Zaka converted a penalty to seal the result. With 4 points, Switzerland holds second place. The host Canada routed Qatar 6-0, creating the largest goal difference of the tournament. Jonathan David scored a hat-trick. Two Qatar players were sent off, leaving them to play with nine men, and they also gifted an own goal. This victory is Canada’s first-ever World Cup win in the team’s history. With an advantage in goal difference, Canada topped the group. After two matches, Qatar has only 1 point and is essentially eliminated.

Red cards, own goals, and goals from free kicks continued to happen one after another across multiple matches. The attacking tempo stayed tight, and the qualification scenarios in each group became increasingly distinct; the competition in the final round that follows will be even fiercer.
