Axelar Network just announced: assets bridged to Secret Network via IBC were hacked for $4.67 million.

The vulnerability was in the ICS-20 smart contract on the Secret side, and the emergency committee has urgently disconnected it.
Once again, it's a cross-chain bridge. In 2022, Ronin lost $620 million, Wormhole $320 million, Nomad $190 million — bridges have always been the most vulnerable part of DeFi because their essence is locking assets on one chain and minting a mapped version on another, with the extra smart contracts in the middle creating attack surfaces.
Three steps to self-check your cross-chain assets:
① Check if the bridge you use has undergone multiple audits
② Ensure the assets on the target chain are native tokens (not wrapped)
③ The ratio of the bridge’s TVL to your locked amount — too small a TVL indicates liquidity risk.
Cross-chain is possible, but don’t keep large assets on the bridge for the long term.
