Here's what I recently realized
When I first started playing with bStocks, I thought to myself that I could finally buy US stocks on the blockchain
Nvidia, Tesla, just hearing those names got me excited
But after using it for a while, I realized I wasn’t treating it as trading US stocks at all
I wasn’t monitoring prices, looking at earnings reports, calculating valuations like I do with a broker
What I was doing was: swapping some U into NVDAB, then putting it into DeFi to collateralize and earn interest
And so on
Is there any fundamental difference between this and swapping U for sUSDe to earn yield?
/
Once I understood this, I felt
bStocks is not a substitute for trading US stocks for me at all
It’s a way to make U more than just U
In the past, your U had only two options: either sit back and earn 5%-10% interest, or gamble on Meme coins
Now there’s a third option: swap into things like NVDAB, TSLAB, giving your U directional beta
Its rise and fall follow Nvidia, while still working as collateral on-chain
You haven’t left the chain, haven’t gone off the grid, haven’t opened a brokerage account, just a new liquidity mode
——
So who does bStocks really compete with?
I think it’s not brokerages
It’s USD1, sUSDe, and various stablecoin yield products
Because they’re competing for the same pool of money
Those U on-chain that have nowhere to go for now
Stablecoin yield gives you certainty of interest, bStocks gives you directional beta + composability
Which one you choose depends on whether you want certainty or flexibility right now
For me, when the market is volatile, I earn interest; when there’s a trend, I swap some U into bStocks and hold
The switching cost is almost zero both ways
This feeling is way more exciting than just being able to buy US stocks.
//
Of course, I have to pour some cold water
You can think of bStocks as “a better U,” but don’t think of it as “actually holding Nvidia”
There’s a trust layer difference between those two
And once you put NVDAB into DeFi collateral, liquidation risk, oracle risk, liquidity exhaustion risk all exist
It’s fun, but don’t forget risk management
My approach is small positions to test the waters, not all-in, able to withdraw at any time
bStocks isn’t new, but “U finally has a more imaginative destination than just earning yield” — I think that’s worth considering.
