USA Defeats Australia 2-0, Secures 2026 World Cup Round of 32 Ticket
The United States men's national team (USA) successfully secured their spot in the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup after convincingly defeating Australia 2-0 at Lumen Field, Seattle, early Saturday morning (June 20, WIB).

This victory gives Mauricio Pochettino's team a perfect six points from two matches in Group D, ending the USA's 96-year wait for consecutive wins in the World Cup group stage since 1930.

Match Progression
11th Minute (Own Goal): The US immediately pressed from the kickoff. Starting with a quick penetration by Folarin Balogun on the left side, he delivered a cross that was misread by Australian defender Cameron Burgess, causing the ball to deflect into his own net. USA leads 1-0.

43rd Minute (Alex Freeman's Goal): Just before halftime, the US doubled their lead. A loose ball from Sergiño Dest's shot that was blocked and floated in front of the goal. Alex Freeman quickly responded with a targeted header that beat goalkeeper Patrick Beach. The goal was reviewed via VAR but confirmed as onside since Freeman was in an onside position.

Entering the second half, Australian coach Tony Popovic brought in some fresh players like Nestory Irankunda to boost the attack. The Socceroos had a golden opportunity through Mitchell Duke and Harry Souttar's header, but the outstanding performance of the US defense led by Tim Ream kept the home team’s goal clean until the final whistle.
