Abstract generation in progress
Gold Financial reports that on June 18th, Amazon (AMZN.O) is in talks to sell its self-developed AI chips to other companies' data centers, marking an expansion of its efforts to challenge NVIDIA's dominant position. Amazon's AI business head Peter DeSantis stated, "We believe AI infrastructure is evolving rapidly. We have been looking for ways to serve more customers." Amazon launched its AI acceleration chip Trainium in 2020. The chip has attracted some heavyweight clients, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Uber, who use the hardware through Amazon Web Services (AWS). In April this year, Amazon announced that Trainium had secured over $225 billion in revenue commitments. In the same month, CEO Andy Jassy said that Amazon is "completely capable" of selling entire chassis of chips to third parties. This is also part of the company's strategic repositioning around AI. DeSantis said that the third-generation Trainium chips, which began shipping earlier this year, are "virtually sold out." Amazon stated that the fourth-generation Trainium chips, expected to launch next year, have already attracted strong demand.
