Talking with my friends in the village, I mentioned that someone made tens of thousands of yuan by trading stocks and was very happy. Someone asked me what stocks I was trading, and I said I just bought a little S&P and NASDAQ, planning to invest steadily for 6 years to see the outcome. I said this stuff has an annualized return of less than 10%, and there's a chance of losing money. He immediately lost interest.

I understand what he means; he just wants to buy a ten-bagger or hundred-bagger stock, small investment to gamble for a big win.
It's normal to have this kind of idea; I used to think the same way, but in practice, this kind of approach is truly a life-and-death gamble.
